At Welbodi Sierra Leone, we strive to nourish healthy minds and healthy bodies in Sierra Leone's girls.

Our Mission

Welbodi Sierra Leone's mission is to further girls' education and health in Sierra Leone. We currently are set up to support girls in need living in Kambia District, Sierra Leone but hope to expand to other districts.

How do We Do It?

Welbodi Sierra Leone is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. We provide scholarships to support a range of expenses girls and their families must pay to attend high school. Generally, our scholarship recipients have passed the exam necessary to enroll in high school, called the BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination). While these girls show incredible promise and have proven successful in their studies, their families do not have the financial means to continue their education into high school.

Getting our start

When the Ebola epidemic of 2014-2015 hit Sierra Leone, emergency responders from all over the world came to try to help. Hannah, the founder of Welbodi Sierra Leone, was one of those responders in Kambia District. Casey was completing a teaching exchange program in Sierra Leone when the epidemic began. Casey and Hannah saw first hand how much education and healthcare were needed. Both before the Ebola emergency and now, girls are too often the ones whose education take a back seat when times are tough.

While working in Sierra Leone Hannah met Abass, a Sierra Leone native who worked tirelessly and passionately with the community and international responders to try to end the transmission of Ebola. Now that the emergency Ebola response has ended, Sierra Leone still needs our help to rebuild and grow. Having worked side by side with Abass, Hannah has seen his integrity and commitment to his community. Now they are working together to send girls in Kambia to school. With Abass as our partner on the ground and from the community, Welbodi Sierra Leone can make fundraising dollars go further to help more girls finish their education.

I still have the passion to learn so I could help liberate my family and support other people in my district to develop.
